What it is
N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is the acetylated form of the amino acid L-cysteine. At high doses (600–1,200mg twice daily), it acts as both a mucolytic — breaking disulfide bonds in mucus to reduce viscosity — and a powerful antioxidant that replenishes intracellular glutathione, protecting lung tissue from oxidative damage. It is one of the most evidence-backed supplements for COPD and chronic bronchitis.
