SacredBod's longer take on Amyloban (Lion's Mane) — context the structured blocks above don't capture.
Amyloban is a proprietary standardized extract of Hericium erinaceus (lion’s mane mushroom) concentrated for amyloban compounds and hericenones—bioactive diterpenoids that stimulate nerve growth factor (NGF) synthesis. It represents a more targeted approach than generic lion’s mane powders.
Amyloban and hericenones cross the blood-brain barrier and upregulate NGF mRNA expression in the hippocampus, promoting neuronal survival, differentiation, and synaptic plasticity. Erinacines (from mycelium) and hericenones (from fruiting body) also activate the Nrf2 antioxidant pathway, reduce neuroinflammation via NF-κB inhibition, and suppress COX-2 and iNOS in microglial cells.
Who benefits most
Adults experiencing mild cognitive decline, brain fog, or seeking neuroprotective support. Those with family history of neurodegenerative disease may consider it as a preventive adjunct.
Dosage and form
500 mg is the typical effective range. Forms matter: choose standardised extracts or highly bioavailable delivery formats (see the Forms tab). Take as directed.
Side effects and cautions
Rare itchy skin (allergic). Mild GI upset. Avoid if you: Those with bleeding disorders or on anticoagulants should use caution. Not recommended in pregnancy. May cause mild GI discomfort or skin rash in sensitive individuals..
The evidence
Human clinical trials and mechanistic research support the use of Amyloban (Lion’s Mane) for its primary indication. See the Research tab for full citations and study summaries.
